The most popular form of government in this
modern world is "Democracy". Today, most of the countries in the world
follow "Democracy". Abraham Lincoln gave a definition of Democracy.
According to Abraham Lincoln ," Democracy is the government of the
people, by the and for the people ". In this Democratic form of
government people are the rulers and the rulers are the representatives of the people. To pick up these representatives ,elections are the only way to achieve this. India is the largest democratic country in the world.
The other countries of the world might wonder ,how Indian Election Commission conducts such elections in a fair and free manner without any kind of problems ,especially by the terrorists. This lies in the hands of the Election Commission which holds a huge responsibility of conducting elections. India is a huge hub of political parties. In this country only , any person can contest in the election if he has more money. He will be declared as an independent candidate. He can hold any symbol of his single man party.
In India political parties can be classified into National party and Regional party. A party that secures at least six percent of the total votes polled in the lok sabha election ,in four or more states is called national party. In India parties like Congress, BJP are some of national parties
Only in India it occurs that, a regional party can grow into a National party. For eg. AIADMK. At the same time, a National party can be changed into a regional party. For eg. Congress.
Indian elections can be classified into Direct election and Indirect election. In Direct election ,The citizens of the directly take part in the election by casting their vote in the election. The Prime Minister and the Members of the Lok Sabha are elected in this manner. In Indirect election , already the persons who elected as representatives are the voters here. The President, The Vice President and the Members of the Rajya Sabha are elected in this manner.
So in India elections are very very important. Every Indian citizen must cast their vote in the election to elect our representatives. Next we will see about the "Opposition parties".
The success of a democracy depends to a great extent on the constructive role of the opposition parties. In India now all parties are opposition parties except BJP. Because all parties oppose BJP. The party which gets second large number of votes then this party is recognised as "Opposition Party". The main duty of the present opposition parties is to criticize the policies of the government. Nowadays in the Lok Sabha during the question hour , the opposition parties not only ask question to the speaker but also they sleep, walk ,run, fight in the Lok Sabha. I don't want to mention a certain name. Because today many persons are sleeping int he Lok Sabha. If the speaker asks him why he sleeps ,he said that is his democracy and also he said that the speaker insults him by asking this question. This person shows his democracy in sleeping only.
Finally I say to the Indian Citizens that they must be very careful in choosing their representative. For this purpose only elections are being conducted. Son choose the correct and best representative. It will help both the people and the government.
